Some say the modern Republican Party doesn’t stand for anything. But they’re wrong.

They stand for power — attaining it and holding onto it by any means necessary.

And if lying helps them obtain those ends, they will do it without hesitation.

Take, for instance, their ideological war on so-called Critical Race Theory (CRT), intended to fire up white resentment and anxiety among their base voters.

In their assault on antiracist education the right is spreading several falsehoods about the premises underlying the racial justice position.

According to conservative critics, CRT and antiracist theory says:

  1. People should be viewed first and foremost as members of racial groups rather than as individuals.
  2. White people are inherently racist and privileged.
  3. Whites are oppressors, while people of color are victims.
  4. White children should feel personal guilt or shame for the actions of their ancestors.
  5. The notions of merit and excellence are racist.
