Sometimes I really can’t stand certain people on my side of the political aisle.

We all know the type.

As a more-or-less lifelong resident of the political left, I’ve been around folks like this forever.

They’re the smug, pretentious, oh-so-serious types who, many years ago, used to put stickers on their cars that said things like “Kill Your Television.”

Maybe they still do.

Because we all know television is for stupid people — those who don’t read Jacobin (or at least The Nation) or listen to progressive podcasts.

God, sometimes I can’t stand certain people on my side of the political aisle

These are the kinds of folks who think pop culture is insipid and irrelevant — a distraction from more important matters like the war in Ukraine, neo-fascism at home, or climate catastrophe.

To them, mass entertainment is the new “opiate of the masses.”
