To hear his acolytes tell it, all Ben Shapiro does is win, win, win…crushing leftists on college campuses, owning the libs on the daily by offering up arguments to which his detractors have no response. They are left sputtering, awed by his superior wisdom. At least that’s what the YouTube videos would lead one to believe.
All of which suggests that the problem on America’s campuses is not a stifling leftism that shuts down conservative speech, but an embarrassing lack of argumentative skills on the part of the nation’s undergraduate population.
Or perhaps a really good video editor in the employ of Ben Shapiro.
Because there is nothing about the right’s high-pitched, fast-talking star that connotes brilliance. Quite the opposite.
Indeed, recently, Ben — whose opposition to abortion is among his signature positions — demonstrated on Twitter the inherent vacuity of his pro-life stance and the contradiction at the heart of his position.
He did this in a tweet replying to someone else who had made the argument that he was a hypocrite for saying that people have a right to life, while nonetheless disavowing a right to health care. Here is that exchange:
