I have nothing personal against Oprah Winfrey.
She seems like a perfectly fine human being, so far as I can tell. I’m friends with people who know her and attest to her kindness, and I have no reason to doubt them.
But when you think about some of the people she’s helped make rich and famous, it’s hard not to notice a pattern of quackery.
And to then recall whence this gaggle of fools came.
First, there was Dr. Phil, who still calls himself that even though he stopped renewing his license to practice psychology 15 years ago, and once diagnosed a 9-year-old as possessing more traits of a serial killer than Jeffrey Dahmer, despite never meeting the child.
And there was Rhonda Byrne, whose book The Secret tells desperate people that if they think positive thoughts and envision success, health, and wealth, the law of attraction will manifest these things in their lives.
Thanks to a feature segment on Oprah’s show, the book and the film based on it have grossed over $300 million, peddling utter horseshit that credits mindset for success and thus, in effect, blames the poor and sick around the world…
